I am a Patriot. From dawn’s Patriotism is not my proclamation of prideful national superiority, but rather a growing acknowledgement of the thanksgiving we owe, for the privilege of being blessed and spared most International woe. Patriotism re-opens the closed mind by singing praises for all humankind. It’s Ellis Island giving birth to all of “We the People” nourishing all that lives upon the earth. Patriotism is about more than military might and bragging rights. It’s why we reach out, join in and fight the good fight for Family, Neighborhoods, Peace on Earth while dancing the Global warming dervish. A Patriot is not one who stays behind in time of war because, “I had other priorities in the '60s than military service."
No one owns Patriotism, not Progressive Liberal, nor Conservative people who claim exclusive rights to the house with the steeple. Patriotism is not screaming “Love it or Leave it” or “My Country, Right or Wrong.” It’s bigger than slogans, debating pundits, the sky above and the respect to the oceans due. Patriotism is the truth that prevents the scales of justice from tipping too far askew. Patriotism at its best is International Citizenship, extending our Good Will toward the Earth, despite past discard of “Old Europe” relationship. A true Patriot recognizes what needs repair and seizes the opportunity to speak up for those in despair. Though it takes a village to raise and educate children “Left Behind” by political sound bites and angry red vs. blue rhetoric, it takes more than “Following the Sun” and flag waving to be a true Patriot. Being a Patriot is being a good neighbor and good citizen, ever watchful for outspoken screamers of derision, being used by corrupted government placating to those who have forgotten service first to all, is the best and most Patriotic way to everlasting health, wealth and safe border division. Patriotism welcomes small business entrepreneurs discovering, inventing and developing America for all Americans, while knowing proclaiming corporations are people is not at all patriotic for a national global vision. Being a Patriot means requiring and expecting “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness," even for those who do what we call sin. True Patriotism, like Patriots comes without government domestic spying on the citizens it was entrusted to “Preserve, Protect and Defend.” As Patriot, voting alone is not enough, so my journey continues, inviting you to speak, write, stand up & in, walking beside any neighbor or kin, for good leaders are a must. As for me, I carry forward that which I was given in trust: The Red, White, Blue, Black, Brown and Yellow too, where no coffee, beer or tea nonsense can ever do. To a Patriot every day is Independence Day and “United We Stand” is more than a call to war. United is what we must do and be to maintain our footing sure. On a path of Freedom, Justice and Equality, we ring our Liberty Bell in celebration knowing, love for all countrymen as well as country, is Patriotism that makes America endure. Recapturing the Essence of 1776!

early light, I forged in the mud of revolution. Then in wars for peace declared for us by the political self-serving, I still marched on, wading through the killing fields of the sludge of oil barons. I’m called many things as I carry on seldom pausing on my path, but even if only an ant to thee I be, I take my stand atop The Ant Hill of Liberty. And at your pretense of love for country filled with disdain for its countrymen, I laugh, for the original thirteen who sent me, I now rededicate my voice in reverence, though small. For those who gave us our Freedom, for the 234th time I stand tall, for I am a Patriot for one and all.
